扬子江头杨柳春,On the banks of Yangtse River willows celebrate spring.

杨花愁杀渡江人.But their catkins sadden those waiting by the ferry crossing.

数声风笛离亭晚,At the Yangzhou stage coach inn, where we now part, a flute plays.

君向潇湘我向秦.You heading for Bamboo Country, while I for Loess Land.

Catkins: In old Chinese literature, willow catkins were said to be the tears of those being parted.
