A Heptasyllabic Quatrain Du Fu



两个黄鹂鸣翠柳,

Two yellow orioles sing in the green willows;



一行白鹭上青天.

A flock of white egrets surge up the blue sky.



窗含西岭千秋雪,

In my window is framed the snow-capped peak of Mount West.



门泊东吴万里船.

Close by my door are moored boats from faraway Wu.



Wu: Suzhou and surrounding areas in Jiangsu Province in the prosperous lower Yangtse Valley, which is thousands of miles away from Chengdu where Du Fu lived.
