"There is no need for you to see her," answered Don Quixote. "You must believ
e what I say, and agree that my words are true. If not, you must fight me. I am here, ready for you. You may come one at a time, as good knights, or all together, as wicked men usually do."

"Sir knight," answered the merchant, "do not ask us to speak about the beauty of a lady we have never seen. She may be old and ugly."

Don Quixote's Anger

Don Quixote did not wait to hear any more. He rushed forward at the man with his lance, to make him pay for that joke with his life. But Rozinante fell down, and his master
rolled on the ground for some distance.

Then a big rock stopped him.

He tried to get up, but his armour was heavy, and he could not rise. He lay there on his back,
moving his arms and legs wildly.

All the time, he shouted at his enemies, who stood laughing loudly at him.

"Do not run away, you frightened fools! It is not my fault, b
ut the fault of my horse that I lie here helpless."

Don Quixote's words made one of the mule-drivers very angry.
