"Help!" cried the barber. "I am being robbed and killed!" By this time, most people had come out to learn the cause of the noise. The barber asked them to help him, and he told everyone about the stolen basin and saddle. When Don Quixote heard th e word "basin," he felt uncomfortable. He separated the two fighters, and said, "This is an important matter. Go, Sancho, and bring me the helmet, which this foolish man calls a basin." The helmet- basin was brought. Don Quixote held it up for everyone to see, and asked whether it was not really a helmet. Nicholas, the barber of Don Quixote's village, decided that it was a good chance to have some fun. He looked at the basin with a very serious face, and spoke to the other barber. "This is a very strange mistake you have made, friend. I have been a barber for twenty years, and I have be en a soldier too. I know everything about armour and helmets.
