| When the big man saw Don Quixote with his lance raised, he was very afraid. H e answered in a weak voice: "Sir knight, this boy is my servant who looks after my sheep. He is so lazy and careless that every day one of the sheep is lost. When I punish him,he says that it is because I do not pay hi m. However, that is quite untrue." Don Quixote's Mistake "Untrue, you say?" cried Don Quixote. "Untie the boy at o nce, and pay him his money, or I will strike this lance through your body!" The farmer obeyed, and Don Quixote asked the boy how much money his master ought to pay him. "Seven reals a month for nine m onths," he answered. "That is sixty-three reals," said Don Quixote. "Pay him immediately, if you do not want to die." The man said he had not got so much money with him. But he agreed to go home and pay the boy there. "I cannot go to his home!" cried the boy in fear.
