| 30. The Raven And The Swan A Raven saw a Swan, and desired to secure for himself a like beauty of plumage. Supposing that his splendid white colour arose from his washing in the water in which he swam, the Raven left the altars in the neighbourhood of which he picked up his living, and took up his abode in the lakes and pools. But cleansing his feathers as often as he would, he could not change their colour, while through want of food he perished. Change of habit cannot alter Nature. | 30. 乌鸦和天鹅 一只乌鸦看见一只天鹅，便希望自己也能有如此好看的羽毛。 它以为天鹅那漂亮的白色羽毛是从它游泳的水中漂洗出来的，于是乌鸦便离开它可以就近取得食物的船坞的台阶，也住到湖和池中去。 但是尽管它时常洗着它的羽毛，仍是不能改变它们的颜色，同时又因缺少食物而终于饿死了。 即使更改习惯，也不能改变天性。 |
