| 35. The Bear And The Two Travellers Two men were travelling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree, and concealed himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when t he Bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned the appearance of death as much as he could. The Bear soon left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body. Wh en he was quite gone the other traveller descended from the tree, and accosting his friend, jocularly inquired "what it was the Bear had whispered in your ear?" He replied, "He gave me this advice: Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger." A friend in need is a friend indeed. | 35. 熊和两个旅行者 两个人一起去旅行，在路上碰到一只熊。 一个人迅速地爬到树上，躲在树枝里。 另外一个来不及逃走，只好直挺挺地躺在地上；熊走上来，用鼻子嗅遍他的全身，他屏住呼吸，尽他所能地装出死人的样子。 熊不吃死尸，便离开他了。 熊走远了，那个人从树上爬下来，笑嘻嘻地问他的朋友：「熊在你耳边低声说些什么话？」 他回答说：「他给我一个忠告：『别再和临难相弃的朋友一起出去。』」 患难之中见真情。 |
