每年10月8日或9日为农历二十四节气中第十七个节气——寒露。此时气温比白露时更低，地面的露水都快要凝结成霜。这是二十四节气中最早出现"寒"字的节气，但这并不表示天气已经像冬天一样冷了。
        在广东一带流传着这样的谚语："寒露过三朝，过水要寻桥"，指的就是天气变凉了，可不能像以前那样赤脚趟水过河或下田了。可见，寒露期间，全国各地都可以明显感觉到季节的变化。"露水先白而后寒"意指经过白露节气后，初秋的凉意将转为深秋的寒冷。
        寒露时节起，雨水渐少，天气干燥，昼热夜凉。这个时候最容易诱发呼吸系统、消化系统的疾病，还有季节交换引起的感冒发热。
        虽然天气已经渐渐寒冷，但山东一带的北方地区仍能吃到鲜桃，这种桃子属于北方晚熟桃品种，因为成熟期在寒露前后，所以叫"寒露蜜桃"。

Cold Dew

Cold Dew is the seventeenth of the twentyfour solar terms of the lunar calendar and it falls on the eighth or the ninth day of October each year. Temperature at this time is even lower than that in the period of White Dew, and the dews on the ground are about to become frost. This is the first of the twenty-four solar terms with the Chinese character "寒(hán)(meaning cold in English)", but it doesn't necessarily mean that the weather is as cold as in winter.

A saying popular in Guangdong province goeslike this: "Three mornings after the day of Cold Dew, bridges are needed to cross the river", which means that the cold weather following the day will no longer permit crossing the river or working in the field with bare feet as before. The turn of seasons is obviously felt all over the country after the day of Cold Dew. The saying "dews turn white first before the weather becomes cold" means the coolness in early autumn will turn into the coldness in deep autumn.

Starting from the day of Cold Dew, it rains less, and the weather is dry with comparatively hot day and cool night. It is the time to get respiratory and digestive diseases easily, as well as cold and fever caused by the turn of seasons.

Although the weather is getting colder, fresh peaches can be eaten in the northern provinces like Shangdong. This kind of peach belongs to the late mature variety in the north, and because it gets ripe around Cold Dew, it is called "the cold dew nectarine".
