The day of Frost's Descent generally falls on the 23rd or 24th day of October each year, when frost first appears in the regions along the Yellow River. The temperature falls dramatically below 0℃ in the late autumn as the result of a great deal of ground heat loss . The vapor in the air will freeze on the ground or the vegetations in the form of tiny ice needles, or hexagonal frost flowers, which are white in color and loose in structure. It is the high time to sow the crops as barley, wheat and highland barley in China.
Frost's Descent is the last solar term in autumn, and it is also the transition period from autumn to winter. After this day, the activity of cold air is frequent and it is deep autumn already.
There are some chemical changes to the leaves of trees such as smoke-trees, maple trees, and persimmon trees after the day of Frost's Descent, and thus the colors of the leaves will turn from green to red. Frost's Descent is the best time to appreciate red leaves, especially those in the scenic spots like the Xiangshan Park, the Badaling National Forest Park, the Baiwangshan Forest Park and the Miaofeng Hill in Beijing.
