秋分，农历二十四节气中的第十六个节气，时间一般为每年的9月22日～24日。秋分之"分"是"半"的意思，我国古籍《春秋繁露•阴阳出入上下篇》中说："秋分者，阴阳相半也，故昼夜均而寒暑平。"正如春分一样，阳光几乎直射赤道，昼夜长短再次相等。从这一天起，阳光直射的位置继续由赤道向南半球推移，北半球开始昼短夜长。
        秋分时节，我国长江流域及其以北的广大地区，先后进入了秋季，日平均气温都降到了22℃以下。北方冷气团开始具有一定的势力，大部分地区雨季刚刚结束，凉风习习，秋高气爽。秋分是美好宜人的时节。也是农业生产的重要节气。
        秋天上市的果蔬品种多样，其中藕、荸荠、甘蔗、秋梨、柑橘、山楂、苹果、葡萄、百合、银耳、淮山、柿子、芝麻、蜂蜜等均是此时调养佐餐的胜品。

Autumn Equinox

The Autumnal Equinox is the sixteenth of the twenty-four Solar Terms of the lunar calendar and it usually falls between the 22nd and the 24th of September each year. The "分(fen)" in "秋分(qiu fen)" means "half". It is said that, in the ancient Chinese book the Numerous Spring and Autumn Dew•the First Chapter and the Second Chapter of the Yin and Yang Balance, "the Autumnal Equinox shows that the yin and yang are half and half on this day, so the night and the day are balanced and the cold and the heat are even." Just as on the day of Spring Equinox, the sun almost directly shines the equator and the lengths of the night and the day equals again. From this day on, the sunshine moves from the equator to the Southern Hemisphere when the Northern Hemisphere begins to have shorter days and longer nights.

When the day of Autumnal Equinox comes, the vast areas along the Yangtze River and on its north see the approaching of autumn with the average daily temperature dropping to 22℃ and below. The cold air in the north begins to show its force. Most of the areas have just left the rainy season behind when the cool breeze begins to blow and the sky is clear and the air is fresh. The Autumnal Equinox is not only a favorable and beautiful season but also important time for farming.

Autumn is the season for a variety of vegetables and fruits, of which the lotus roots, water chestnuts, sugar canes, autumn pears, oranges and tangerines, hawthorns, apples, grapes, lilies, white fungi, persimmons, sesame seeds and honey are all excellent recuperative and appetizing food.
