记得小时候，在成都的街头巷尾时常能看到一些摆摊的糖画艺人，孩子们最开心的事儿就是去摊上买个"糖饼"或是"关刀"，先玩后吃。2008年6月，"成都糖画"艺术已被列入第二批国家级非物质文化遗产名录。现在，成都每年都会举办糖画大赛。

In my childhood, many sugar painting painters could often be spotted in lanes and streets in Chendu. The happiest thing for a child was to buy a sugar cake or a Guan Knife-shaped sugar painting from such a stand. He would first play with it and then eat it. In June, 2008, Chendu's sugar painting had been enlisted into the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage. Now, sugar painting competition is held every year in Chendu. 

       糖画，顾名思义，就是用糖作的"画"。这一民间艺术虽属小技，然而却源远流长，距今约有四百余年的历史。据考证，明代（公元1368—1644年）人用熔化的糖霜做成各种动物及人物作为祀品，后来吸收了中国皮影、民间剪纸等艺术的造型手法和雕刻技艺，它逐渐演变发展为今日的糖画艺术。

Sugar painting, just as the name implies, is a painting made of sugar. Although it seems to be a trivial skill, it has a long tradition of 400 years. According to the historical records, people began to use melted sugar to make all kinds of animals and human figures as sacrifices in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Then it adopted some sculpting and carving skills from shadow play and paper cutting and has gradually developed into the current art of sugar painting. 

       糖画的制作用料讲究、手法丰富、题材广泛。糖画艺人坐在摊前，将炼制过的糖熔化，面对洁白如玉的大理石板，执勺在手，静气凝神，运腕走勺，流糖如丝。顷刻间，各种花鸟鱼虫、飞禽走兽及戏剧人物等形象跃然石上，待糖画凝固后，用一根竹签粘合支撑，拿在手上既可观赏又可食用。

The production of sugar painting uses refined materials, involving different skills, and the content of the paintings covers a broad range of subjects. The sugar painting artist sits behind his stand. He melts the refined sugar and holds a spoon to paint on the jade white marble board. He holds his breath and concentrates on drawing with the spoon. In a few seconds, all kinds of images, such as birds, flowers, fishes, worms and drama figures, all vividly appear on the marble board. After the sugar becomes solid, you can use a bamboo stick to hold it. A piece of sugar painting can be appreciated and consumed as well. 

       尽管现在从事糖画行当的人数较过去有所下降，但如今糖画这种独特的民间艺术又逐渐得到了社会各界越来越多的关注。

Although the number of sugar painting artists has decreased over the past years, this special folk art of sugar painting now has come to draw more and more attention from people in China.
