伊斯兰教是世界的三大宗教之一，在大约一千三百年前，伊斯兰文化传到了中国的一些地区和民族中，渐渐成为当地人普遍信仰的宗教，并形成了一种独特的文化体系及生活方式。

Islamism is one of the three great religions in the world. About 1,300 years ago, Islamic culture was spread to places and certain ethnic groups in China, and has gradually become a religion that won great popularity in the local region and formed a unique culture system and life style.

        现在，中国西北的新疆、宁夏、甘肃、青海等省份和西南的云南还聚居着为数众多的穆斯林。伊斯兰教是回族、维吾尔族、哈萨克族等十个少数民族的唯一的宗教信仰和共同精神支柱，上世纪五十年代，这十个民族的代表还在北京成立了伊斯兰教管理协会。

At present, there are a large number of Muslims living in the northwestern provinces of China, such as Xinjiang, Ningxia, Gansu and Qinghai, and also in the southwestern province of Yunnan. Islamism is the only religious belief and spiritual support of ten ethnic minority groups in China, including Hui, Uygur, and Kazak, etc. In the 1950s, representatives of these ten nationalities established the Chinese Islamic Association in Beijing.

        伊斯兰教是如何传入中国的呢？一般认为有两条路线：一条是自西亚、中亚而来，从西北的敦煌传入，这条路线就是举世闻名的陆上丝绸之路；另一条是沿海上丝绸之路，自西亚、北非、东非，從东南的广州、泉州传入。

How was Islamism introduced to China?, It is generally acknowledged that Islamism was introduced to China from two routes. One is the famous Silk Road on land, from West Asia and Central Asia to Dunhuang in the northwest of China. The other is the Silk Road on the sea, from West Asia, North Africa, and East Africa to Guangzhou and Quanzhou in the southeast of China.

        和佛教一样，进入中国的伊斯兰教在发展过程中逐渐形成了具有中国特色的伊斯兰教文化。比如，在教义上，中国伊斯兰教一方面承认儒家的"太极"思想，另一方面又提出在"太极"和"无极"之先，还有"真主"，"真主"才是造化大地的本体和世界万事万物的总根源。但对一般人来说，中国伊斯兰教最明显的中国特色应该是其寺庙建筑特点，除了沿海和新疆地区的某些清真寺采用传统阿拉伯清真寺风格外，内地的大部分著名清真寺都采用了中国传统的殿宇式四合院为主的建筑式样，乍一看和佛教的寺庙及道教的道观区别不大。

Like Buddhism, in its development in China Islamism has shaped its distinctive cultural characteristics. For instance, in terms of its doctrines, on one hand, Chinese Islamism acknowledges the idea of "Tai Chi" in Confucianism; on the other, it believes that Allah comes before the concepts of "Tai-Ji" and "Infinite", and Allah creates everything and is the source of everything. For the ordinary people, the most typical characteristic of Islamism in China is its architecture. Except for some mosques in the coastal areas and Xinjiang province which follow the traditional Arabian style, most of other big mosques in inland China adopt the traditional Chinese style, mainly composed of temples and courtyards. At first sight, they resemble very much the Buddhist monasteries and Taoist temples.

        伊斯兰教对中国文化也有影响，比如，现在大家都爱吃的兰州拉面、牛肉米粉、羊肉泡馍等等，其实最早都是符合伊斯兰教规的食物。

Islamism has exerted an influence on Chinese culture too. For example, the staple food such as Lanzhou Hand-pulled Noodles, Beef Rice-noodles, and Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup, which people like so much nowadays, are actually foods allowed by Islamic doctrines.
