围棋应该是最能体现中国文化底蕴的运动项目了。传说远在4000多年前，就有"尧造围棋，教子丹朱。"尧用黑白两种棋子代表两方军队士兵，进行围攻对弈，培养儿子丹朱的指挥能力和判断力，结果将一个粗鲁爱打闹的儿子，教育成为一名有知识又善于用兵的将军。尧用这个方法教子成功，围棋也一代一代流传至今。       

Weiqi is a game which can best demonstrate the profound culture of China. It is said that more than 4,000 years ago the Emperor Yao created this game to develop the intelligence and mould the temperament of his son, Dan Zhu. Yao used white and black pieces to stand for two armies respectively and arranged different battles between the two, in order to train Dan Zhu's ability to judge and command. Dan Zhu, who had been rude and reckless in the nature, was turned into a learned general excelling in commanding armies finally. Yao educated his son with success by teaching him to play weiqi, and thus the game has passed down through generations till today.

       围棋魅力无穷，能使无数人沉醉其中。纵横各十九路的棋盘，就像一个错综复杂的战场；361粒棋子，就像白昼和黑夜相互交替。围棋的精妙在于它的思维理念与战略战术。在实战中，输赢并不取决于一城一池、一兵一卒的得失，高级战术往往是通过"弃子"实现攻击与防守的适时转换，懂得舍弃眼前的小利，谋取长远的大利，最终才能获取全面的胜利。       

Weiqi is an enchanting game intoxicating many people. The board is equally divided into 2109 little checkers, which resembles a complicated battle field; while the 361 chess pieces are like day and night replacing each other alternatively(both players try to encircle each other's pieces on the board. When a player's pieces are encircled, they are counted as "dead" (captured)). The charm of weiqi lies in its concept, strategy and tactics. The player shouldn't care about the gain or loss of a city or a troop; instead, he should seek opportunities to attack the enemy and defend himself in the right time by sacrificing some pieces. Only when the player is not blinded by immediate success and short-term gains but looks for long-term benefits can he win the battle in the end.

      围棋不仅可用于消遣休闲，还能陶冶情操。千百年来，围棋一直被人们视作修身养性的工具。人们熟悉的围棋"五得"包括"得好友、得人和、得教训、得心悟、得天寿"，就是说围棋可以使人们广交朋友，教人们如何和别人和谐相处，让人们懂得人生的规律。

Playing weiqi is not only for recreation but also for cultivating one's temperament. For centuries weiqi has been regarded as a good way to tame one's mind. It is said that people who enjoy playing weiqi can have "five gains" — friends, harmony, education, wisdom, and longevity. That is to say, weiqi can help them to make friends and get along well with others, and teach how to understand the laws of life.

       在漫长的历史岁月中，围棋渐渐流传到国外，逐渐为世界各国人民所喜爱。现在，围棋已成为一项世界性的体育项目。

As time passes by, weiqi has spread abroad and is welcomed by many foreigners as well. Nowadays it has become one of the popular sport events in the world.
