Controlled oral practice is what happens at those times in your lesson when your students get a chance to work on their spokenaccuracy. This usually involvesrepetition of particular language and so it is also often referred to as "drilling". The word drilling however sometimes brings up images of teachers making their students go through mindless, meaningless endless repetition. This is boring and meaningless and the students will not be able to use this language in any real communication when speaking English.
