Dictionaries are a very valuableresource and there are many other types of dictionaries in addition to those purchased at a book store. For lower level students, I have found it more educational and interesting to make dictionaries in class. Try this activity below and learn about making dictionaries with your students.
One type of classroom-made dictionary is an alphabet dictionary. The materials needed for this activity include a scrapbook with drawing tools. Try to have lots of different kinds of implements and/or colours. Kids enjoy drawing more if there is a variety of tools to choose from. Dictionaries can also be filled out by cutting out pictures from newspapers and magazines. |
