| | | | | | | Activity 2 Christmas words Stick the picture of a Christmas Tree onto the board (or draw one yourself). Draw one each of the following on the tree: star, bauble, candy cane, angel, present, candle, bell Stick word cards on the board : star, bauble, candy cane, angel, present, candle, bell Ask the children: Where's the star? Who can tell me? Stick the word star next to the star.
Continue with each of the words until all are on the tree.
Next take them all off again and ask if someone can come and stick the word star in the correct place. Who can help me put the star in the right place. Good. Come up here and stick it in the right place. You can download the pictures and worksheet at the bottom of the page.

In pairs, get the children to draw the outline of Christmas Tree decorations: star, bauble, candy cane, angel, present, candle, bell (or use the photocopyable sheets available with this lesson plan)
B has to close their eyes and A removes one item. B opens their eyes and guesses which item has been taken away.
Ok you need one of these things on each desk. (point to the pictures on the board) When they all have them out We are going to play the same game as we've played before – Kim's game.
Do you remember?
B you must close your eyes – put your hands over your eyes – like this.
Now A take one of the things and hide it
B open your eyes. What has A taken away?
OK let's play the game. I'm going to come round and listen to how well you say the words. While they are doing the activity, monitor and check for accuracy and pronunciation of the new words.
After the activity correct any problems with vocabulary or pronunciation

| | | | | | | Activity 4 (Could be a homework) Ask the children to colour the decorations they used in the last activity. They must write the words: We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in different colours on their decoration: see examples.
While they are drawing their decorations, either
a. Draw a large Christmas Tree on the board
b. Put a pre-prepared poster of a Christmas Tree on the wall Get the children to come to the front and stick their decoration on the Christmas Tree when they've finished.
