Ask the children to look at the learning outcomes for the lesson – you may explain what they are going to learn in Chinese.

Tell the children to get their coloured pens out.  They need to get out the following colours:  red, yellow, green, blue, white, brown, black, grey

Get some coloured pens out.  You need a red one, a yellow one, a green one, a blue one, a white one, a black one and a grey one.

Ask them to hold up the pens when you say the colour so you can check that they all have the right ones.

Listen to me.  I will say a colour and you must hold up that colour pen.

Next, give out the Christmas tree worksheet.  Tell the children that they must colour in the decorations on the Christmas tree in the colours you tell them.

You must colour the decorations with the colour I tell you.  Let's do the first one together.

Colour bauble number 1 blue

 OK check each other's Christmas trees.  Is bauble number 1 blue?
 Good.  Let's do the others.

Colour bauble number 2 green, etc. etc.

Stick the large picture of a Christmas tree on the board.  Write these gapped sentences on the board.

The Christmas tree is .................

The star is ..................

The snowman is ....................

The baubles are ..................

The presents are ..................

Ask the children what words are missing.

What words are missing?

The children should answer that colours are missing.  Ask children one by one to tell you the missing words in each sentence.  As they tell you the correct words get them to write the sentences in their exercise books.

Now ask them to draw the outline of a Christmas tree in their exercise books.
 
Draw a Christmas tree in your exercise books.

Take the picture down from the board.  Tell the children that they must add the decorations they have written down to their Christmas tree for homework.

Tell the children to fold the paper so that it makes a card.  Now they must write inside the card.

What do British people say at Christmas?  Do you know?  Put up your hand if you think you know.

Yes they say "Merry Christmas"

Write the words on the board and tell them to write Merry Christmas at the top of their Christmas card.

Write Merry Christmas in your best writing at the top of your Christmas card

Who are you going to give your Christmas card to?  Decide who you will give it to and inside you can write.
