老子《道德经》第二十七章 英译

【原文】

善行无辙迹，善言无瑕谪(zhé)；善数不用筹策；善闭无关楗(jiàn)而不可开，善结无绳约而不可解。

是以圣人常善救人，故无弃人；常善救物，故无弃物。是谓袭明。

故善人者，不善人之师；不善人者，善人之资。不贵其师，不爱其资，虽智大迷，是谓要妙。

【现代汉语】

好的行为不留痕迹；好的言论没有过失；好的筹划不需借助器具；善于关闭的，不用栓销却使人不能开启；善于束缚的不用绳索却使人不能解开。

与此类似的，圣人能够做到人尽其才，所以不会有被遗弃的人；能够做到物尽其用，所以不会有被丢弃的物。这就是掌握了'道'的智慧。

所以，有才能的人可以作为普通人的老师，普通人可以成为有才能的人提供借鉴和补充。不尊重老师和不珍视借鉴补充的行为是非常糊涂的。这是非常重要的道理。

【英译】

A good runner leaves no track; a good speech leaves no flaws for attack; a good reckoner makes use of no tallies; a well-shut door makes use of no bolts, and nobody can open it; a good well-tied knot makes use of no rope, and nobody can unloose it.

In the same way the sage is always skilful at finding good qualities of people and worthiness of things. So there are no rejected people and things. The reason why the sage can do that is that he understands the wisdom of 'Tao' clearly.

So the talented person could teach the everyman, the everyman could offer assistant and warning example for the talented person. It is very important principle.
