"闲客"这个词语还不为大多数人所熟悉的时候，毕业于北京大学的陈爱东已经是一名"资深闲客"了。她在网上通过ＳＫＹＰＥ聊天工具免费教授中级英语口语及听力训练已经一年了。陈爱东说："做'闲客'主要是希望将自己留学及在美国的生活经验与大家分享，为准备留学或移民的人提供资讯。" 
        据陈爱东介绍，她所在的"闲客"网有１０００多名教课老师，其中有许多是免费教课。 
        通过网络以及视频在线等方式，直接为学生提供课外辅导服务的网民，被称为"闲客"。有些"闲客"教授课程，有些"闲客"提供留学信息，有些"闲客"提供法律咨询。"闲客"教授的课程几乎包含各行各业，从服饰搭配到音乐美术，从健康保健到人生哲学，从理财保险到创业点子，从烹饪刺绣到电脑应用。在"闲客"网上，网友可以查看闲客的个人信息、课程介绍、时间安排，然后预约上课时间，就可以利用视频聊天工具在约定时间上课了。 
        "闲客"不分国界。有很多外国人在"闲客"网上教授外语，也有很多师范院校的学生做"闲客"累积教学经验。来自美国的小朋友ＴＩＧＥ今年１１周岁，他也是一名"闲客"，主要教儿童英语口语。他表示选择做"闲客"主要是想与中国小朋友聊天交朋友。

At a time when the word "xian ke" is still new to most people, Chen Aidong, a graduate from Beijing University has already made herself a senior "xian ke". It has been one year since she began using Skype (a chatting tool on the internet) to provide free intermediate oral and listening English training. As Chen herself put it, "My main purpose in being a 'xian ke' is to share with others my experience of living and working overseas in the U.S and provide information for those who intend to study overseas or immigrate to a foreign country."

According to Chen's introduction, over 1,000 teachers provide teaching services on www.xianbuzhu.com, and many of them teach free of charge. 

Netizens who provide students with direct out-of-class services through the internet, online video, or other similar methods are called "xian ke". Some "xian ke" give lessons, some provide information on overseas study, and others do law consulting services. Classes and services offered by "xian ke" cover almost everything you can think of, from matching clothing and accessories to music and art, from health care to the philosophy of life, wealth management, insurance, ideas to start a career, cooking, embroidery and learning to use a computer. On www.xianbuzhu.com, netizens can look up the information about the personal profiles of various "xian ke", their class descriptions and teaching schedules before making reservations. Then classes can be arranged through video chat tools.

There are no boundaries for the "xian ke". A number of foreigners teach foreign languages on www.xianbuzhu.com, and a great many students in normal universities and colleges choose to be "xian ke" to get teaching experience. Even an eleven-year-old boy named Tige from the U.S. has turned himself a "xian ke". He mainly teaches children oral English. He said that the reason why he chose to be a "xian ke" was that he wanted to chat with Chinese boys and girls and make friends with them.
