As there was only one month between the New Year's Day and the Chinese Spring Festival in 2010, quite a few white collars started to make full use of the short New Year's holiday for going home early to avoid the travel peak during the spring festival.
Mr. Wang working in Shanghai is from Harbin, and this is the seventh year for his stay in Shanghai. He is always mentally and physically exhausted for getting a ticket to go home right before the Spring Festival each year. He says, "As I am busy all year round, I can only take the opportunity of the Spring Festival to visit my hometown. However, fatigue from the long distance travel during each Spring Festival excels the joy of family reunion." This year, Mr. Wang decided to follow the fashion and spend the holiday before the Spring Festival. The annual leave plus the New Year's holiday was quite long enough for Mr. Wang returning home unhurriedly.
Xiao Wu in Beijing also drove back by taking the advantage of the New Year's holiday. He said, "This is already the third early Spring Festival' for me. I return back on the New Year's Day when the traffic is fairly smooth. My parents flew to Beijing for the Spring Festival, and there also would not be so many people at that time. We choose an adverse route and completely stay away from the jam."
