Stop the bus is a fun word game for the whole class, suitable as a warmer or end of class activity.
|
| First divide your class into teams of say five or six students, giving each team a name. Make sure each group member has a piece of paper and a pencil. Next, think of four or five suitable word categories and write these on the blackboard. You could ask your students to suggest these, or you could choose recently covered topics from your classes that you wish to review. You are now ready to play.

Give your students a letter of the alphabet, avoiding the more obscure letters such as q and x, then shout "Go!" Each group must think of one word for each word categorybeginning with the letter you have chosen and write these down on their piece of paper. The first team to do this should shout out "Stop the bus!" At this point, stop the whole class and ask the students to give you their answers. Write these on the blackboard, awarding one point for each correct answer. You could insist on correct spellings too. Repeat the game using a different letter, or perhaps add an extra category to increase the difficulty. |
