Introduction
Children in general learn best when they are active and enjoying themselves and games are therefore often used in the language classroom.
When playing games children are often willing to investconsiderable time and effort and so if we design games in such a way that they are productive of language learning, they become an excellent if not essential part of the learning process.
Not all teachers are in favour of using games in the classroom as they see them as recreational 'time out' activities whose main purpose is enjoyment rather than serious work.
There is the danger that once you call a language learning activity a 'game' you convey the message that it is just fun, not to be taken too seriously. To counteract this, it is important that games played in the classroom have a clear learning point or aim and are used at appropriate times of the lesson.
