最近两年的格莱美都有这样的歌手，外形并不出众，在台上玩acoustic的东西，而且都捧走几个小喇叭（格莱美的奖杯）．他们是典型的唱作形，才华横溢，而且用心唱歌．这样的歌手去年有John Mayer，今年有有另外一个John，John Legend．



John Legend出生在美国俄亥俄州的Springfield，他从五岁开始学习钢琴，到了八岁就已经在当地教堂里为唱诗班进行伴奏．此后，从中学一直到大学，他一直活跃在音乐舞台，并陆续灌录一些小型唱片．在发布首张个人专集前的九年，他一直在费城外的Bethel A.M.E.教堂担任唱诗班的导演．



如此音乐背景可以说是一个成功的骚灵歌手的必备条件，而John Legend即完全满足．我们从他的音乐里面可以充分感觉到他音乐功底的扎实，其精彩的钢琴演奏以及成熟的骚灵唱腔已经完全超出一个＂新人＂的一般水平．这里所说的新人，应该是作为发片歌手来说．因为早在推出个人唱片之前，John已经和多位巨星在幕后合作过，包括Lauryn Hill，Alicia Keys，Black Eyed Peas，Janet Jackson，Mary J. Blige．翻看其参与幕后制作的曲目，发现不少都是自己十分喜欢的．确实感到惊喜．













2004至今，John一共发表过３张唱片，包括两张现场录音，03年的Live at SOB's New York City和04年的Live at the Knitting Factory，而真正引起主流乐迷关注的唱片是他的首张录音室唱片Get Lifted．在这张唱片中，当初签约John Legend的伯乐Kanye West亲自参与专集制作，有了Kanye West这样的金牌制作人做监制，音乐的编排自然流行的不能再流行，Soul，Rap，R&B，HipHop，绝对是乐迷很受乐的那种．但是主打歌Ordinary People似乎是专集中的另类，只是简单的钢琴加上John自己的声音，简单但是十分震撼，写得是平凡人的生活，就是要引起听者的共鸣，感情完全到位，笔者朋友听了一个现场的版本老说想哭．对的，听John Legend的歌，不听现场，就等于没听．上面提到的两张现场专集，听了你会更爱这个歌手，现场的John Legnd就象他演唱Ordinary People一样，只要一台钢琴就够了，不要鼓，不要和声，曲目全部都是录音唱片里面的，但是经过如此简单的编排，带出的就是原汁原味，音符之间显现出一位25岁歌手的难得的平实与成熟，你会惊叹他在现场的投入和专注．听了live专集如果还不过瘾的话，请看格莱美，那晚现场表演的John Legend经典程度好比去年同一个晚上在台上用他弹唱的John Mayer．
