You can give feedback in different directions: up, down or sideways (to a peer). If you can do this effectively, you can improve different aspects of your job:

· relationships — how you get on with bosses, subordinates and peers
· processes — how well you and others do their work
· results — how you achieve your objectives

Feedback can help you do this because it changes the way people work - more productively and effectively. It helps people perform better and feel more satisfied at work. You need to set up a work environment where feedback is possible – make sure everyone understands it's mutually beneficial, make sure it's based on explicit job expectations and objectives and for it to work, you need to establish a mutualcommitment to improvement and positive performance. Keep the receiver's perspective in mind, match what you say to their communication style and be aware of differences in gender, race, seniority and age.
