Both Monica and Antonio have always lived in the world of sport. She started playing as a child and joined her first team at 14; her father had played professionally for a local lower league side.
"Just lately people have started getting more used to the idea of women playing football," she says. "At first they would look a bit disconcerted when you told them what you did."
Antonio, meanwhile, had previously been a sporting director of a women's handball team and now occupies the same role at Torres. He became involved eight years ago when his friend, the club president, asked him for a helping hand. It was in the Torres clubhouse that he first set eyes on Monica.
"She had already been at the club some time when I arrived," he recalls. "It wasn't just her football skills that attracted me, but everything about her. You get to know each other, go out with each other, start to develop esteem for each other, and then the flame ignites."
