A letter to the editor of a newspaper
Dear editor,
I'm writing to share with you my experience in a bookstore that happened before long. Recently, I brought an English dictionary which I had been yearning for a long time. The minute i returned to my
dormitory, I could not help using it, only to find that a number of pages were so blurred that I could hardly identify the words distinctly. Worse still, some pages were missing. Hence, the next day, harboring an
indignant heart, I went back to the store and required that they should either replace it with a good one or refund me . However,
surprisingly as well as annoyingly, the shop assistant argued that since the book had been sold to me, it was my responsibility and none of their business
whatsoever happened to it. Needless to say, my
rational request for a new one was
rudely rejected. Disappointed and helpless, I had to leave the bookstore.
Nowadays it is
commonly heard that customers are God. Today I really know what God really is. In this commercially developed society, while many loyal businesses are actually firmly upholding the banner of consumerism, there are
innumerable shops or supermarkets that have thrown it away and hurt consumers' benefits for the sake of their own profits. To pursue the
maximum margins, they even sacrifice consumes' health by
offeringdefective or
inferior products. We have launched a lot of
relevant laws and acts to prevent such deeds and protect consumers, but those conscienceless businessmen still find their own places to locate themselves. Why? As far as I see, the reasons are as follows.
To begin with, our legislation system is still far from perfect and our legislatives are
desperately required to
consummate it.
Secondly, our law
executor should
harshly execute our legislation and impose
penalty on those who break the law! Once
finding some businesses are producing illegally, especially those in the food industry, the government and the
relevant organizations should forbid their operation and amerce them accordingly, so as to sustain the
normally running market.
Furthermore, we should
reinforce the
supervision of our media. As is known to all, media such as newspaper, TV, internet and so on, are
sensitive to the change of our society and can reach a more distant point that has been neglected by the public and the government. On the basis of its distinct characteristics, media can
uncovercountless truths about all aspects of our current society. In this way, we can be well informed and act accordingly to protect our rights and benefits. Besides, it is widely acknowledged that
reputation is the key to success in business world. Therefore, if a company exercise some
lawless activities, such as producing some
defective goods and low-quality food, then once revealed, its
merchandise will be strongly rejected by all consumers. Worst of all, the company may go
bankrupt and never recover again.
Last but not the least, to my mind, publicity is an
indispensable measure to the overall plan. We should strongly advocate all businesses to
conform to the law, and meantime,
consolidate the self-protection
conception of vast consumers. Also, the government can call for the public to jointly
supervise all the local shops and stores. Only by implementing the measures I mention above can we truly build up a
smoothly running market!
Dear editor, I hope you can publish my article and make more people aware of this pressing issue that is waiting to be
tackle. I am
craving for the day when every customer can authentically enjoy the feeling of being a God.
Looking forward to your
timely reply!
Best wishes
Yours
sincerelyFan Kangshi
