With a little more than two weeks to go before the expected-but-not-yet-confirmed Apple event, a raft of websites today are reporting today that an iPhone trade-in
program is in the works.
Two close Apple watchers -- 9to5Mac and Macrumors -- were circling the news this morning that Apple is currently training employees at its U.S. stores for a September launch. TechCrunch says the pilot
program is already
happening and gives some details from its sources about how the
program works. Here is what TechCrunch says:
The
program works like this. A
customer brings a working, non-liquid-damaged iPhone into an Apple Retail Store. It's then evaluated by an employee with the help of an online site that an employee can
access using the store's iMacs or iPads. The
customer then answers a
series of questions about the condition of the
device in order to determine a value.
All Things Digital's John Paczkowski weighed in with its own confirmation, too,
taking this Apple rumor out of the 'when there is smoke ...'
category and putting on into the likely camp. He says CEO Tim Cook wants to increase iPhone sales through the company's own stores.
