Qin Shi Huang, or Ying Zheng, was the first
sovereign in Chinese history to use the title "emperor". He was the greatest Chinese
statesman and military
expert who had a
profound and
far-reaching effect on the history not only of China but also of the whole world.
The fact that he was regarded as "the Emperor of Qin Dynasty" "showed the important place he held in Chinese history. This was
mainly because of the great contributions he brought to China under his reign. He ended the time when China was separated, founded the Qin Dynasty and established the basic layout of the Chinese territories. He established the Emperor System and the
system of centralized state power, which enabled the state
apparatus to run the state more effectively. This model of
management became the basic pattern for China's political
system for two millennia and was copied by rulers of the
successive dynasties. He addressed the situation with the varying
complex text forms, ordered unification and simplification of the characters, abolished the varying forms and carried out a
summary and
reform of the development and
evolution of the ancient writing. Before him, the six kingdoms used their own metric and
monetary systems. However, after Qin Shi Huang founded the Qin Dynasty, he unified the metric and
monetary systems and greatly promoted the economy's development. He also ordered the
construction of canals and roads, and strived to
facilitate the ease of traffic, thus imperceptibly strengthening the rule of the territories. After Qin Shi Huang eliminated the six kingdoms, he ordered the
construction of the Great Wall. The building of the Great Wall not only protect the lives and property of the people in the northern border regions, but also allow
reduction of the defending army troop garrisons, which lessening the burden of the people. This great
project later became the most important defense line against the invasions of the northern tribes.
It's not hard to see that Qin Shi Huang is in fact an powerful, legendary and epoch-marking character.
