LUOYANG - The two-time Olympic Chen Zhong and rookie Guo Yunfei gifted China two gold medals at the Asian Taekwondo Championships here on Sunday.

China's Olympic and world champion Chen Zhong fights Nadin Dawani from Jordan to win the women's over 72 kilograms category final at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in Luoyang of Central China's Henan Province April 27, 2008.

The 26-year-old Chen, winner in the Olympics in 2000 and 2004, took the gold medal in the women's over 72 kilograms division as she overcame Nadin Dawani of Jordan through superiority decision.

Chen's compatriot Guo Yunfei, 19, claimed the gold by defeating Mary A. Rivero of the Philippines 2-1 in the women's 67 kilograms class, making a successful debut at the championships.

Chen and Dawani made slow attacks without scoring in the first set and both of them were punished to lose one point each by the judges.

Having levelled (-1)-(-1) after three sets, Chen and Dawani, bronze medallist in the World Cup in 2006, could not manage to score a crucial point in the "sudden death" bout after defending off attacks from each other.

According to the regulation, all referees decided Chen to take the victory basing on her initiative shown during the last set.

"I did my best in the competition and I am glad that I won my second gold medal in the Asian Championships in my homeland," said Chen, born in Henan Province.

"I am preparing for the Beijing Olympics and I had ups and downs during these months. I will try to be more optimistic in the training and show my best in the Olympics."

Another gold medalist Guo, 19, calling Chen as "elder sister", expressed her hope to win a gold medal in the 2012 Olympics.

"I am still young now. The Asian Championships gave me the chance to communicate with other players," said Guo.

"I will try my best to win a ticket in the Olympics in London," said she.
