(CCTV 06-18-2008 13:24)The Olympic torch relay continues its domestic tour, and it has just passed through its second stop in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region: Kashgar city.
The relay started at 9:45 this morning at the Id Kah Square. A total of 208 torchbearers participated, the same number as the previous stop in Urumqi. The first torchbearer was Chinese ace "high-wire" walker Adili. Adili is the descendant of a Uygur family with a 430-year history in a field of acrobatics known as "Dawazi" in western China.
The relay covered a distance of 6.5 kilometers and lasted about 2 hours. It ended at the Kashgar People's Square. Kashgar is west of the Taklamakan Desert in Southern Xinjiang and about 1500 kilometers from Umruqi.
The torch relay will be held in two other cites in the region, first in Shihezi and then Changji.
