BAGHDAD, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two U.S. helicopters crashed in a northern Baghdad district on Saturday evening, said sources from the U.S. military and Iraqi Interior Ministry.
A U.S. military statement said that two UH-60 Blackhawks have crashed at about 8:55 p.m. local time (1755 GMT), while landing in Baghdad's northern district of Adhamiyah.
One Iraqi Army soldier was killed and two U.S. service members and two Iraqi Army soldiers were wounded, said the statement, adding "it is unknown how many were on board at the time of the incident."
According to the statement, initial reports indicate the two helicopters collided during the process of landing.
The incident apparently was not due to ground fire, but an investigation is underway, it added.
Earlier, an Iraqi Interior Ministry source confirmed to Xinhua that a U.S. helicopter crashed in northern Baghdad and that there was gunfire in the area.
The source, however, could not tell whether the incident was due to the gunfire.
On Sept. 18, a U.S. transport helicopter went down in southern Iraq, killing seven people on board.
