Amid all the talk about Chinese buyers snapping up French wine, last week it was the country's domestic wine industry that got the spotlight.

A report produced by International Wine & Spirit Research for the Vinexpo wine fair said that China produced 72 million cases of wine in 2009, up 28% from the previous year; in 2012, it is expected to produce 128 million cases. That figure is greater than the Australia forecast of 121 million cases in 2012. Australia currently ranks sixth in the world for wine production, behind Italy, France, Spain, the U.S. and Argentina.
