Volkswagen AG and PSA Peugeot Citroen SA are
considering developing China-only brands with their local
partners in the country, people familiar the situation said, adding to a growing trend among foreign auto makers targeting surging demand for low-cost cars.
知情人士说,德国大众汽车公司(Volkswagen AG)和标致雪铁龙集团(PSA Peugeot Citroen SA)正分别考虑与其中国合作伙伴共同开发仅面向中国市场的汽车品牌,表明外国汽车制造商开始进一步瞄准中国低成本汽车需求大幅增加的市场。
Volkswagen is in discussions with one of its two Chinese
partners about the
possibility of starting a new jointly-run brand, a person close to the German auto maker said.
一位与大众过从甚密的人士说,大众正与其两个中国合作伙伴之一就是否可能新建一个共同经营的品牌进行谈判。
'The talks have been going on for some time, and they are in their final stage,' the person said. He would not say which of Volkswagen's
partners, SAIC Motor Corp. or FAW Group Corp., it is discussing the matter with, or
otherwise elaborate.

Separately, Timothy Zimmerman, a
senior China-based
executive at Peugeot, said parent company PSA Peugeot Citroen is looking into an opportunity to start an
additional brand for China and is discussing with its
partner Dongfeng Motor Group Co.

'We want to
pursue this only if there is a place in the market for it, and if it is profitable,' the Beijing-based
executive said in an
interview. He said PSA Peugeot Citroen and Dongfeng have
launched a joint study group to look into the feasibility of the move.
