BAGHDAD, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi security forces said on Saturday it captured the top Islamic judicial leader of the al-Qaida in Iraq network in Baghdad, the state-run Iraqi television reported.
"An Interior Ministry force arrested the Islamic judicial leader in the al-Qaida organization in Iraq, Ismail Abdul-Sattar al-Rubaie, in Baghdad," Maj. Gen. Abdul-Kareem Khalaf, spokesman of the Interior Ministry, said in an interview with the channel.
"The Qaida leader is currently interrogated by Iraqi security forces," Khalaf said without saying when the leader was arrested.
He said that the captured leader is also known as "the blind leader" and "the blind judge."
Investigation with the leader disclosed several Qaida cells in and out of Baghdad, according to Khalaf who refused give further details for security reasons.
