Apple Inc. (AAPL) began selling a version of its iPad tabletcomputer with cellular capabilities and by Sunday consumers had cleaned off the shelves of many stores.

Gene Munster, an analyst Piper Jaffray & Co., estimated Apple sold about 300,000 iPad 3Gs over the weekend based on his analysis of sales at 50 Apple stores. While that would be about the same as the original iPad's first weekend, he said, the original version had a shorter pre-order period and went on sale on a Saturday rather than a Friday. He estimated Apple has now sold more than a million iPads of all types.
