Every year someone asks Warren Buffett who will replace him--and every year he ducks the issue.

On the inevitablesuccession question at the meeting this year, Buffett, 79 years old, said that a plan is in place, and that's all investors need to know.

'If I die tonight there will be a new CEO in place in Berkshire,' he said. 'All the partners know who it will be and they will be comfortable with it.'

The succession question, however, has been a drag on the stock. Many investors worry that Buffett can't be replaced. The current front-runner, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Chairman David Sokol is largely unknown to most investors. One question many ask is whether 40,000 people would come to Omaha every year to listen to Sokol opine for five hours on all things under the sun.

Buffett did make a bit of a slip of the tongue when discussing the issue, calling it a 'problem,' then quickly recovering.

'The CEO problem, which is not a problem,' he said. 'The CEO question, you want an answer for it right now and you want to be prepared.'

Regarding the question of who will replace Buffett as the chief investment officer at Berkshire, he said that while in 2008 the four leading contenders 'did not distinguish themselves,' in 2009 'they did pretty darn well.' He said that he believed none of the investors use leverage.
