   Content:Module 2 Great books

   [Junior3, New standard English]

   一、 题材内容

   本模块以谈论伟人和他们的着作为话题,语法重点是一般现在时的被动语态的用法, 并能读懂有关评价名着的对话和文章。该话题为学生所熟知,非常有利于开展听、说、读、写方面的语言实践活动。通过操练,使学生在掌握语言结构的同时,既学习语言知识,感悟语言功能,又能拓展知识面。在阅读过程中,学会应用寻找重复词的阅读技巧。教学中教师应随时随地以课本为出发点,灵活利用各种素材组织教学过程和内容。充分调动学生的积极性。

   教学目标

   1) 语言知识:

   语音 正确朗读带有一般现在时被动语态的句子。

   词汇 work, influence, thinker, thought, wise, copy, monthly, literature, adventure ,

   behaviour , cave , freedom , funeral , century ,outsider , pretty , social , theme ,

   treasure , clever , dead ,hide-hid-hidden , pleased , alive , punish , state , southern

   功能 掌握表示同意和不同意的表达方式,如 I gree/ I don't agree

   话题 以"谈论伟人和他们的着作为"为话题。

   2) 语言技能:

   听 能听懂谈论人物或介绍文学作品的对话.

   说 能谈论自己喜欢的文学作品

   读 能读懂介绍自己喜欢的文学作品的文章。在阅读中学会应用寻找重复词和细节的阅读策略,进行简单的阅读技能训练。

   写 能写短文介绍和评价自己所喜欢的文学作品的对话。

   演示与表达 能发表对某部作品的看法并且能与同学展开讨论。

   3)学习策略

   学习一定程度形成自主学习,有效交际、信息处理、英语思维能力。

   认知 联系,归纳,推测等技能。观察并归纳一般现在时的被动语态的用法,提高自学能力。

   调控 从同伴处得到反馈,对自己在叙述及作文中的错误进行修改

   交际 学习运用恰当词语简单表述伟人和他们的着作。

   资源 通过其他资源获取更多有关"伟人和他们的着作"的简单英语。

   自学策略 能够运用观察、发现、归纳和实践等方法学习语言知识,感悟语言功能。能注意发现语言现象背后的规律,并能运用规律举一反三。

   合作学习策略 互相学习,取长补短,注意学习策略共享,将自己所搜集的信息与其他同学共享 。

   4)文化意识:

   中外对比 了解对中国传统文化的了解加强对西方着名作家和戏剧家及其文学作品的了解,从而拓展视野,激发学习英语的兴趣。

   5)情感态度:

   通过学习描述过去生活,提高对英语的学习兴趣。参加各种英语活动,克服困难,在新环境中进一步树立准确的语言学习观。

   6)任务:能够运用一般现在时的被动语态介绍和评价自己所喜欢的文学作品。

   教学重点和难点

   重点:1.掌握谈论伟人和他们的着作的基本词汇,读懂含有一般现在时的被动语态的句子,掌握一般现在时的被动语态形式和用法。

   难点: 掌握一般现在时的被动语态的结构和用法。

   教学方法

   基于课程改革的理念及"第二语言习得论",培养实现人的可持续发展和人的主体精神的自我完善和发展所必需的能力和素质,运用任务型教学途径,围绕核心任务,设定小任务,开展和谐愉悦的课堂活动,强调兴趣第一的原则,初步设计"P-T-P"自主学习立体模式:pre-task...task-cycle...post-task。

   二、 教材处理

   核心任务:能够运用所学句型结构介绍和评价自己所喜欢的文学作品。三个环节如下:

   pre-task:学生联系生活实际,激活背景知识,。

   task -cycle:通过整个模块的听说读写的训练,强化对"谈论伟人和他们的着作"的表达能力,为完成任务做好铺垫

   post-task:达成任务,展示成果,反馈学习情况

   三、 教材安排

   根据学生学习英语的特点和规律,我们把本模块划分为4课时:

   Period 1: Listening and Vocabulary &Pronunciation and Speaking

   Period 2: Reading and Vocabulary

   Period 3: Writing& Around the world &Module Task

   Period 4: Language in use

   注:教学时应根据学生的学习水平、生活实际水平、接受程度及课堂出现的临时状况进行运用、调整及筛选。

   『教学设计』

   Title: Module 2 Experiences

   Period 1: Listening and Vocabulary &Pronunciation and Speaking

   Teaching Content: Listening and Vocabulary and Pronunciation and Speaking

   Teaching Aims and Demands:

   1. Language Knowledge

   Key vocabulary and phrases: work, influence, thinker, thought, wise, copy, monthly, literature, What's up? as far as , not ...any more , millions of

   Key structure: be + p.p. (重点)

   2, Listening skill: To understand conversations about appraisement of great books. (难点)

   3.Speaking skill: To talk about great books

   Learning strategies:

   Bottom -up approach and listening to the tape and do some exercises.

   Teaching Aids: Multi-Media (Tape recorder, video, OHP, handout)

   Teaching Procedures:

   Part I: Revision

   Task: Recall what we have learned in the last Module.

   Directions:

   Step one: Label the pictures with the phrases.

   (1). Read through the phrases in the box and have the Ss. Repeat them after you.

   (2).Ask them to label them in the pictures on the screen.

   (3).Make some sentences with the phrases. Ask students to speak out as many as they can.

   Step two: Talk about wonders of the world.

   Ask students to speak out as many as they can.

   Part II: Lead in:

   Task 1: Introduce to them the new words.

   Directions:

   Step one: Introduce the new words of this unit. And list them on the board.

   Step two: Read after the teacher.

   Step three: Practise reading the words.

   Step four: Ask the students to look at the pictures about Confucius, Shakespeare and Mark · Twain . Elicit what they know about them. If there are any new words, add them to the list on the board.

   Step five: Make some sentences using the new words from the whole class.

   Task 2: Introduce to them the Passive tense.

   Directions:

   Step one. Elicit a few sentences from the Ss. (e.g. Many people read this book.) and write them on the blackboard.

   Step two: Then write the following:

   This book is read by many people.

   Step three: Practise the tense with some sentences

   Step four: Have the Ss. make some other sentences. (e.g. visit America/ clean the floor...)

   Step five: The structure of the Passive Tense: be + p.p.

   Part III: Listening

   Task: Listen and then match the words in the box with the box with the people in the picture in activity 1 on page 10.

   Directions:

   Step one: (Close the books) Listen to the tape carefully.

   Step two: Play the recording and have them listen to the recording and focus on the words first time through.

   Step three: Play the recording again for them to check. Then Call back the answer from the whole class.

   2.Task: To understand conversations .

   Directions:

   Step one: Listen and answer these questions:

   What is Mark Twin famous as?

   What is Betty doing in the library?

   Make sure the Ss. understand the questions:

   Step two: Play the recording and have them listen.

   Step three: Play the recording again and have them write the answers individually.

   Step four: Play the recording and have them check their answers with a partner

   Step five: Call back the answers from the whole class.

   3.Task: Activity 4 on page 11.

   Directions:

   Step one: Play the recording again and have them answer this question individually in Activity 4. Have them check their answers with a partner

   Step two: Play the recording again. Call back the answer in a whole- class setting.

   Step three: Listen and check.

   4 .Task: Listen and read:

   Directions:

   Step one: Play the recording and ask the Ss. to listen and read the conversation.

   Step two: Play the recording again and pause after each phrase, asking the Ss. to repeat chorally and individually.

   Step three: Put the Ss. into groups of 2 to practise the dialogue.

   Step four: They should repeat it several times, changing the roles each time.

   5. Explain the important and difficult points

   1 As far as I remember, it was started by Becky Wang.

   as far as...表示"至于,就......".如:

   He isn't coming today ,as far as I know .据我所知,他今天不来了.

   2 Confucius' works are still read by many people today ,and we are still influenced by his thoughts.今天,仍然有许多人在读孔子的论着,我们也仍然受他思想的影响.Confucius 指孔子,是"孔夫子""的英语译名.由于历史的原因,中国古代思想家孔子和孟子(Mencius,也是从""孟夫子""翻译而来的)的英语译名一般不使用拼音直接翻译.现在,大多数我国特有的名称等都取汉语拼音的翻译的方法.

   3 Mark Twain was a important writer ,but he isn't known as a great thinker like Confucius .

   马克.吐温是一位重要的作家,但他并不像孔子那样作为伟大的思想家而文明于世.

   be known as... 表示"以......知名/闻名".如:

   Yang Liping is know as a great dancer.杨丽萍是公认的出色的舞蹈家.

   4 Perhaps that's what makes "Great Books"---they're still read today .也许,这正是入选"名着欣赏"的关键---它们至今仍被广泛阅读.在该句中,make+宾语+adj.的表示"致使/使/导致......怎么样"。如:

   The words made her popular with the students.那些话使她在学生中很受欢迎.

   Eating the bad bananas made them ill.吃这些坏的香蕉使他们生病了。

   6. Task: Activity 5 on page 11.

   Directions:

   Step one: Pair the Ss to complete the sentences with the correct form of the words in the box in Activity 1.

   Step two: Ask some Ss to read them out in front of the classroom.

   Part IV: Pronunciation and speaking

   Task: Listen and repeat in Activity 7

   Directions:

   Step one: Play the recording and ask the Ss. to listen and repeat in Activity 7.

   Step two: Ask the Ss to pay particular attention to the intonation and the sentence structure of the sentences.

   Step three: Pair the Ss to practise.

   Part V: A test

   Listen to the tape and translate some of the sentences into Chinese.

   Part VI: Homework:

   1. Recite the short dialogue as fluently as possible.

   2. Finish the exercises in the workbook Ex. 1, 2, 3&4

   Period 2 Vocabulary and Reading

   Teaching Content: Vocabulary and Reading

   Teaching Aims and Demands:

   1. Language knowledge:

   Teaching Procedures:

   Part I: Revision

   1. Help students to revise what is learnt in Period one of this module.

   Show them some pictures about the new words in last period. Have the Ss. spell them chorally and individually.

   2.Revise passive voice

   Part II : Preparation

   Task : Learn the new words.

   Directions: Label the pictures with the words.

   (1). Read through the words on the screen. Have the Ss. Repeat them after you.

   (2).Read the words separately and have them remember them.

   (3).Make some sentences with the words.

   (4) Call back the answers from the whole class.

   Part III: Scanning and Skimming

   1.Task: Read the passage and match the sentences with paragraphs.

   Directions:

   Step one: The teacher ask the Ss to look at the screen and ask them to match the sentences with paragraphs.

   Step two: Ss read the passage and match the sentences with paragraphs.

   Step three: Call back the answers from the whole class, having individuals read out the answers.

   2. Task: Read the passage again and complete the table with the information about The Adventure of Tom Sawyer in activity 3.

   Directions:

   Step one: Read through the table and make sure the Ss understand what they mean. Ss read the passage and complete the table with the information about The Adventure of Tom Sawyer in activity 3individually and check with a partner.

   Step two: Call back the answers from the whole class, having individuals read out the answers.

   3.Task: Answer the questions in activity4.

   Directions:

   Step one: Read through the questions and make sure the Ss understand what they mean. Ss do activity 5 on page 13 individually and check with a partner.

   Step two: Call back the answers from the whole class, having some pairs act out the answers

   Part IV : Dealing with expressions:

   1. The themes of the story are to do with children growing up and becoming more serious .故事的主题和孩子们的成长以及变得成熟稳重有关.be/have to do with sb. / sth.表示:"和某人/某事、有关"。如:

   My question has to do with yesterday's homework.我的问题和昨天的作业有关。

   In the evening he likes to read books. These books have nothing to do with work.

   晚上他喜欢看书,这些书都与他的工作无关.

   2. Grammar:

   英语的语态是通过动词形式的变化表现出来的。英语中有两种语态:主动语态和被动语态。主动语态表示主语是动作的执行者。

   例如:Many people speak Chinese.

   谓语:speak的动作是由主语many people来执行的。

   被动语态表示主语是动作的承受者,即行为动作的对象。例如:

   Chinese is spoken by many people.主语English是动词speak的承受者。

   被动语态由 "助动词be+及物动词的过去分词"构成。人称、数和时态的变化是通过be的变化表现出来的。一般现在时的被动语态构成:am/is/are+p.p.(过去分词)eg:

   1) Shakespeare's plays are seen by millions of people every year.

   2) Confucius' works are still read by many people today.

   3) Mark Twain isn't known as a great thinker.

   4) Parents are respected by Chinese people.

   5) Many trees are planted along the two banks of the river.

   Part V: Language use

   1. Exercise 11on page 118 in the WB.

   Direction: Ss do it by themselves .Let's see who can finish it as soon as possible. Then discuss in pairs and finally share their answers with the class.

   2.Give the students some time to recall what they've learned in this class.

   Part VI: Homework: Recite the text.

   Period 3: Writing & Around the world &Module Task

   Teaching Content: Writing & Around the world &Module Task

   Teaching Aims and Demands:

   1. Writing skill: Write a short passage about your favourite great book. Improve the students' writing ability (难点).

   2. To learn about Plato.

   3. To summarize and consolidate passive voice . (重点)

   Top-down and Interactive approach and do some exercises.

   Teaching Aids: Multi-Media (Tape recorder, video, OHP, handout)

   Teaching Procedures:

   Part I: Revision

   Task: Help students to revise what is learnt in last module.

   Directions:

   (1). Revise the words and phrases.

   (2).Put the Ss. in pairs to practice the dialogue and the text.

   Part II: Writing

   1. Task: Write a short passage about your favourite great book.

   Directions

   Step One: Think of your favourite great book or choose a book you'd like to read. Use an encyclopaedia or the internet to help you if necessary.

   Step two: Now complete the table in Activity 3 with details about your favourite great book.

   Step three: Write a passage about your favourite great book.. Use the passage in Activity 2 and your notes in Activity 6 to help you.

   My favourite great book is Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K.Rowling. It's a story about a young boy...

   Step four: Work in pairs. Talk about your favourite book.

   Part III: Around the world

   Task: Learn something about Plato.

   Directions

   Step One: Ask the Ss. to look at the different pictures about Plato. Tell the Ss. some knowledge about them.

   Step two: Read the text and answer any questions the Ss have.

   Part IV: Module Task

   Organising a class talk

   Directions:

   1. Activity 9 on page 17. Ask the Ss. to read the statement.

   2. Let the Ss make notes about why you agree or disagree with the statement.

   3. Circulate and monitor their production.

   4: Let the Ss practise their talk.

   Part V: Recalling

   Recall what we have learned today.

   Part VI: A test

   Do Ex.4 on page 117 and hand in immediately.

   Part VII: Homework: Do the Self-assessment on page 119.

   Period 4. Language in use

   Teaching Content: Language in use

   Key structures: Passive voice. (重点)

   Teaching Aims and Demands:

   1. To summarize and consolidate grammar focus.

   2. To summarize and consolidate expressions and vocabulary.

   Affection and attitudes: Books are our friends.

   Learning strategies: Formal instruction and task-based approach and interactive practice.

   Teaching Procedures:

   Part I Revision

   Help students to revise what is learnt in 3 periods of this module.

   Part II Language practice

   Task1: To summarize and consolidate the usage of Passive voice.

   Directions

   (1).Run through the examples with the Ss. and make sure that they are familiar with the use of

   Passive voice.

   (2). Ask the Ss. to repeat the sentences in the box.

   (3). Ask"Can you make other similar examples?"

   (4).Focus the Ss's attention on the ways in which they are used:

   Part III Language in use

   Task1: Ask and answer questions about the form.

   Directions:

   (1). Compare these sentences with the sentences in the grammar box. In activity 1on page 14.

   (2). Now choose the correct form of the words in the box to complete the sentences.

   (3). Work in pairs. Ask and answer.

   Task 2: Finish the conversation in Activity 3 and Activity 8

   Directions:

   (1).Ask the Ss. to finish the conversation.

   (2). Exchange work and peer correct with another pair for accuracy.

   Task3: Revise words and expressions

   Directions:

   (1). Do Activity 5 on page 16 on page 16.

   (2). Make sure the Ss. understand the words.

   (3). Call back the answers from the whole class, and write them on the board.

   (4). If time permits, we can summarize the words and expressions in this module.

   Task4: Listening

   Directions:

   (1). Listen and do Activity 6 on page 16.

   (2). Do Activity 7 on page 16. Make sure the Ss. understand the sentences.

   (3). Call back the answers from the whole class, and write them on the board.

   Part IV: A test

   Do Ex 5 on page 117 in the TB. Let's see who can finish it as soon as possible. Hand in immediately.

   Part V: Homework:

   Finish all the exercises in the WB.
