The yearlymigration of the Tibetan Antelopes has begun, as herds of the animals began the journey to the interior of the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau for breeding.

Since construction began on the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the railway designers and builders have made every effort to protect the environment in Hoh Xil. A special passage has been created for the migration of the Tibetan antelopes in the nature reserve and various measures have been adopted to strictlyprohibit any disturbance to the antelopes.

After going through a phase of adaptation the Hoh Xil antelopes are now in total harmony with the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.

The Tibetan antelope, or the chiru, is indigenous to the Tibetan Plateau, where about 60,000 antelopes presently live in the Hoh Xil Nature Reserve.
