China TieTong will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of CMCC, while maintaining independent operations. Analysts say this latest move signals the start of a long-anticipated reshuffle of the telecom industry.

They also expect the launch of restructuring to lend impetus to preparations for third-generation high-speed wireless services, while also speeding up the development and application of other new technologies.
