(CCTV 09-03-2008 15:33)--In
southwest China's Sichuan province, the highway linking Dujiangyan and Wenchuan, the epicenter of the May 12th
earthquake, has reopened for traffic. This development comes after
relentless efforts by more than 4-thousand workers.
The over 90-kilometer long highway is described as a crucial "life line" for
reconstruction work in Wenchuan. About 80 percent of the road was damaged in the
earthquake. And relief workers delivering supplies had to take a detour of nearly 800 kilometers along tortuous mountain roads. They also had to climb two 4,000-meter-high mountains.
The trek was 8 times longer than in normal circumstances. Authorities say the reopening of the highway will help speed up the
reconstruction in Wenchuan.
