A bulldozer cleans snow on the Sichuan-Tibet road in Nyingchi, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region Oct. 30, 2008.

The death toll from Tibet's worst snowstorm on record has risen to seven, and one person remains missing. Over 3,000 people and huge numbers of livestock are still stranded.

The heavy storm has knocked out telecommunications and traffic in many parts of the region for five days. Nearly 2,000 people stranded by damaged buildings or blocked roads have been rescued. Relocated residents have been moved to other villages, sleeping in schools or government buildings.

A road linking Lhunze to Cuona County reopened on Thursday after armed policemen and transport staff spent 63 hours clearing snow. The Tibet regional civil affairs department has allocated relief materials such as clothes and tents to areas in need.
