BEIJING, Nov. 1 (CCTV)--The 10th National Women's Congress has taken place at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Delegates called on women in China and women's organizations at all levels to contribute more to the country's development.
The congress passed a work report by the Ninth Executive Council of All-China Women's Federation as well as an amendment to the federation's constitution. It also elected the Federation's 10th Executive Committee.
State Councilor Liu Yandong expressed her congratulations on the successful conclusion of the congress. She also urged enhanced policies to promote gender equality... and ensure equal opportunities for women in politics, education and in the economy. Delegates say the congress greatly encouraged them to make more contributions for the development of women.
One delegate said "The congress encourages us a lot. It has shown us the direction for our work in the coming five years."
One delegate said "We will make practical efforts to build social harmony with women in the Tibet Autonomous Region."
During her speech at the closing ceremony of the congress, newly elected chairwoman of the ACWF, Chen Zhili said the full engagement of women in society is a long-term endeavor. She encouraged more female officials to get involved in the process, speaking on behalf of women and contributing to solving the practical difficulties of women. Chen says she will go all out in making her own contribution to the development of Chinese women.
Chen Zhili, Chairwoman of All China Women's Fed said "It's a new start in my life. I will try as best as I can to do more for Chinese women."
More than one thousand elected delegates as well as some 170 specially invited delegates attended the congress. At least one delegate from each of China's 55 ethnic minority groups participated in the congress.
