It was in April 1998, when three
senior managers from Fuji Xerox Singapore Pte ltd came to Shenyang China to
recruit some sales people to do marketing back in Singapore.
Sally,
senior marketing manager, explained that the local market for Office Equipment was alomost full of competitions. People were so sick to see salesmen
everyday that they rarely gave any chance to them, no matter what brand they were presenting. the management of Fuji Xerox had an idea to break the logjam, that is, to
recruit some Chinses people to do the selling. The purpose is simple: to arise the customers' interests and curiosities.
I was chosen from among 90 over candidates. 2 months later, I got my visa, employment pass for 3 years, a contract with two copies and a air ticket to Singapore. "Hi, i'm going to another country to be a salesman!' that's what I told my relatives and friends.
My exciting was soon killed by the cruel facts when I arrived in that
so-called multi-culture country, a english
speaking country, a Fine country! I could never forget about my first training, provided by my salesmanager, Mr.Micheal Foo, cause he rarely spoke Chinese while we could hardly understand his English, or shall I call that "Singalish"? I could do nothing but
trying my best to copy whatever he wrote on the blackboard. Now I know every single word he wrote to us was so precious to me.
After I came back to China three years later, I used to train some new sales guys, and I always remember what Micheal had told me before. He is my first manager in my career life and he made me a successful and
mature sales manager within 2 years, in a foreign country!
