男人讨好女人的传统方式除了送花、送巧克力就是送上烛光晚餐。英国最新的研究结果表明，讨好女人还有一种更有效、更廉价而且更简单的方法--对她的女朋友们"下手"。

　　Traditionally men have used flowers, chocolates and romantic dinners to woo a woman. But research suggests that a much more effective - and cheaper - strategy is simply to give her arch enemy a wink.

　　For psychologists have confirmed that nothing attracts a woman more than the scent of competition. The Aberdeen University study found that women's opinions of men are often based on how other females see them. And the more admirers the fellow has, the better.

　　For the study, the researchers at the university's Face Research Laboratory showed 28 women photographs of pairs of men who were roughly matched looks-wise and asked which they thought were more handsome.

　　They then watched a video of the same men with women either smiling at them or appearing disinterested. When asked to rate the photographs again, the majority of women developed a preference for the man who had been smiled at by the women in the film.

　　Dr Ben Jones, who led the project, said: "We tend to think about things like attraction as reflecting a private decision or a personal choice but our work shows that people's attractiveness judgments can be influenced in pronounced ways by what other people appear to think of those individuals. "It is really the first time that a phenomenon called social learning - where we learn by what other people think or do - has been shown to influence attractiveness."

　　Men who took part in the study described the males receiving positive female attention as less attractive than those who were not.

　　The authors of the study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B journal "If you go into a bar with someone who looks like Brad Pitt then you are not going to get interest from other women because he is going to hog the limelight," said Dr Jones.

　　Other research has claimed that women are attracted to tall men for flings as their looks are a sign of healthy genes, but choose shorter types as husbands as they feel they are less likely to attract other women and have affairs.
