Honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen:
Good evening! My name is Shirley. It's my great pleasure to stand here. The title of my speech today is "My view on opportunity".
Different people might take different views about opportunity. Some people regard opportunity as a rare thing that is difficult to get. But other people believe that every one has a chance at a variety of opportunities from time to time.
As for me, I believe everyone has an equal chance to seize an opportunity. According to a western expression: "Every dog has its day." Everybody has an opportunity to be successful. In fact, no one can be denied opportunities. Those who claim they don't have good luck just can't recognize or take advantage of opportunities. So we must do our best to attempt to find it and make good use of it. Opportunities are not windfalls but are achieveable possibilities for the prepared. Without diligence, willpower and continued efforts, opportunities are simply empty goals. To be qualified for success, people should be equipped with necessary skills, an abundance of knowledge and rich experiences. In other words, opportunity is only a catalyst for success, but not a precondition of success. For example, before Newton, many people had seen an apple falling from a tree, but only Newton discovered the Law of Gravity, for the simple reason he continued exploring answers to problems and was diligent in his studies in spite of difficulties.
As we all know, China is a country which has a large number of young people. Like the rising sun, our youth should utilize energy and bring new blood to our nation through the opportunities they choose. So we must live up to the expectations of our motherland and make the most worthwhile contribution we can to the world as well as to our motherland by squarely facing and seizing every opportunity.
In summary, my view about opportunities is that we should always be aware of them, act upon them, and be prepared to take advantage of them at all times.
Yes, opportunities are coming. With our talents and with our wits, with our courage and with our creativity, let us whisper loudly in our minds: Let it come! Let it come!
