First aid
My lecture includes three parts
Part I Teaching material
Everyone loves life and
everyone hopes to have a good life, but sometimes life itself is very weak and many people died because of delayed care. In this period we can know what to do if we meet with an emergency. The students will be curious about the title “DR ABC” and the material is the practical in our daily life, so it can
arouse the students’ interest. In this period, I will try to
achieve following aims:
1.knowledge aim is to help the students master the new words and expressions.
2.ability aim is to improve the students’
reading ability.
3.moral aim is to make them realize life is precious. We should learn some first aid knowledge, but
prevention is better than first aid.
Teaching important points
1.help students master some words and expressions
2.let the students know more about first aid
Teaching difficult point is to make the students know how to give first aid in emergencies.
Part II.
1.Teaching approach
Students should be the centre of a class. So I will use task-based teaching method. That is, design some tasks to
encourage the students to get involved in the class and to learn to analyze the whole material with the help of teacher. During the class, I will
organize the students’ activity, such as some T or F questions , some
discussion and so on. to improve their
speaking and analyzing
ability and build up their confidence.
2.Teaching aids. I will make use of multi-media to
arouse the students’ interest,
enlarge the content of the class and make my class more efficient.
Part III. Teaching procedures
Step I leading-in
I’ll show the students some pictures on the screen, such as car, house, money, job, life etc. and ask them “what is the most important in your life and why”, this aims to make them have a deep thought about life and know life is precious.
Step II presentation
Task I fast
readingI’d like the students to skim the text and find what the letters DR ABC stand for and do some T or F questions. This aims to check the students’ general understanding of the passage.
D stands for danger, R stands for response, A stands for airway, B stands for breathing, and R stands for circulation.
Task II careful reading
Help the students analyze the
structure of the text, after
reading , let them divide the whole material into three parts and find out the main idea of each part
Part1(para.1¶ 2) the importance of
knowing sth. about first aid and the most important thing you should have in mind when giving first aid.
Part2(para.3¶ 4) remember the letters DR ABC and each letter’s meaning
Part 3(para5¶6) something you should pay attention to after giving the first aid.
This aims to
enhance the students’ analyzing ability.
Task III questions for further understanding
Have the students scan the text and answer some wh-questions to make them have a better understanding of the text.
Such as 1) why do we say that seconds count in an
emergency when we meet someone in trouble?
2)what is the most important thing when
dealing with an emergency?
Task IV language points
Create some situations to let the students guess and understand words and
sentence patterns, and then learn to use them
freely and correctly.
Take “on the way” as an example
I will say “it is December 20th today, so we can say “Christmas is on the way”, it’s easy for students to get the answer “on the way” means “be coming”.
Step III consolidation
1.Summarize the whole text
Give students a passage with some blanks to fill in to
consolidate what they
learned in this period
2.pair work
use the letters “DR ABC” to tell your
partner how to give first aid.
Step IV homework
