Teaching steps:
Step one: Presentation
1.Draw a birthday cake on the blackboard and ask the students “ What is this?”
Tell them “It’s a birthday cake. We often eat it to
celebrate our birthday.” Then write “Birthday” on the blackboard.
2.Ask the students “ Do you like your birthday?” “Why?”
T: We can get some presents from our friends or father and mother.
What do you usually get for your birthday?
Ask the students to answer this question in Chinese. And write their answers on the blackboard.
Then take out some things what the students have mentioned and teach new nouns “ card toy chocolate birthday”
Lead the students read these new words several times.
Step two: Practice
Ask the students to
imitate my questions “What do you usually get for you birthday?” Try to answer with their words
Encourage some groups to act their dialogues out.
Step three: Presentation
Ask the students to open their books to page62 and look at the Reading part.
“Boys and girls please look at the pictures in the part. Who is the girl? Does she look happy? Maybe her birthday is coming soon. If you are her friends don’t forget to bring her some presents.” Repeat the last two sentences. Teach and explain “look soon forget”.
Step four: Listen and comprehension
T: Millie’s birthday is coming soon, but when is it? Boys and girls please listen to the tape and find the answer to this question.
Play the tape again and check their answers. Then ask the students to answer two other questions “ What does Millie usually get for her birthday? Would Millie like to get a CD for her birthday?
Lead the student read the text then asks some pairs to act the dialogues.
Homework:
Please list your birthday presents. You can also bring your favourite one to the class and talk about it with your classmates. If you fall across some
unfamiliar words please look them up in the dictionary.

Write them on the blackboard.
Ask them read after the teacher.
Step3.Listening

Who is in the picture? Millie and her mum.
What are they talking about? They are talking about what to buy for Millie’s birthday party.
Listen to their conversation and try to complete their shopping list.
2.Play the tape twice. Then complete the shopping list.
At last check the answers
Step4. Report.
According to the shopping list.
