W: The last I heard, you were looking for a job, how's it going?
M: So far so good, [just] this Friday I went to the HR Dept. for an interview, they hired me on the spot and asked me to start work next Monday.
W: What kind of company is it?
M: An IT company.
W: I see, do you know what your job specs are?
M: My boss gave me the
responsibility of assisting in the development of some games.
W: That's pretty interesting, I'm fond of playing games too! But developing games should be quite a taxing job, what's the salary they're paying?
M: I'm reporting for work in the
capacity of an intern, so my pay is
relatively lower, 100 yuan per day.
W: How many work hours do you have to clock per day?
M: I start work at 9 a.m. and finish work at 5:30 p.m. But I think we're required to do overtime quite regularly.
W: That's really tough, and the pay's not very high too. I heard you're also giving private tutoring to two
junior high students?
M: Yep, I've shifted those tutoring sessions to the weekends.
W: Then won't you be
working seven days a week? You're really a workaholic.
M: I don't have any choice, I have to pay the rent, and as you know it, I have a girlfriend who spends money like water [lit. squander money like dirt]. Also, I just took out a car loan last week, so if I don't work hard to earn money [lit. earn money with my life], the days ahead are gonna be really bumpy.
W: Why did you buy a car?
M: My girlfriend said that she'd love to go out to the suburbs/outskirts for
leisure during the weekends.
W: You really pamper/spoil your girlfriend. Anyway, you have two students to tutor, and a [full-time] job which requires regular overtime, where will you find the time for such leisure?
M: Time is like the water in a sponge, so long as you are
willing to squeeze, there will
inevitably be some time to spare.
W: I really take my hats off to you [lit.
prostrate to you in admiration]. Right, I only have a few words of
exhortation for you, try your best, work within your abilities, and take care of your health.
M: Thanks for your concern.
