Nán Yuán Běi Zhé

Nán Yuán Běi Zhé

Long time ago there was a man rode in a cart and travelled at full speed on the road.

His friend, seeing him, stopped him and asked: "Where are you heading for?"

"I'm heading for the Chu state." He replied with complacence.

His friend was surprised, and, kindly reminded him that he had gone in the wrong direction because the Chu state was in the south but he was driving northwards.

He replied loudly: "It doesn't matter! My horse can run very fast!"

His friend was worried and continued to say: "The faster you can get, the farther away you will be away from your destination!"

This man answered impatiently, "I don't care. I have a first-class cart driver who is very capable of driving!"

The friend shook his head, said: "I wonder when you can finally get to the Chu state."

He replied: "Never mind. I've taken enough money for the journey no matter how long it will take."

Finally, the friend had exhausted all means to persuade him, but failed and had to watch him traveling farther in the wrong direction. The Chu state was in the south, but this man made up his mind to go north. He could never get there even if he had a good cart-driver, a supreme horses and much money.
