(CCTV 06-06-2008 16:24)The Xi'an Satellite Control Center says China's second Olympic weather forecasting satellite, the Fengyun-3, has successfully completed the early phase of instrumentation and command tasks. The satellite was launched ten days ago.
After over 70 rounds of tracking and more than 700 remote commands, the satellite has entered a sun-synchronous working orbit at an altitude of about 830 kilometers.
The control center also gradually switched on the satellite's high-tech devices, including a dozen of advanced detectors.
Fengyun-3 has already transmitted weather data as well as photographs of the earthquake-stricken Sichuan Province. It is also set to contribute key geographical data for research in aviation, navigation, agriculture, forestry and oceanography.
